Clinical Associate Professor, Associate Department Head for Graduate Studies
Dr. Jiling Liu received his PhD in Kinesiology from Texas A&M University in 2016. He joined the Department of Health & Kinesiology as a Clinical Assistant Professor in 2017. Dr. Liu teaches undergraduate Physical Education pedagogy and Kinesiology foundation courses. He incorporates self-regulated learning and transformative learning practices in his teaching. All online courses he taught were recognized by Quality Matters. Due to his dedication to education, Dr. Liu received the 2021 Excellent Teaching Award from the International Chinese Society for Physical Activities and Health (ICSPAH) and the 2022-2023 Provost Academic Professional Track Teaching Excellence Award at Texas A&M University. Dr. Liu’s research focuses on effective teaching and self-regulated learning, motivation and physical activity, and measurement and evaluation. He has received a Presidential Transformational Teaching Grant from Texas A&M University to support his action research. Dr. Liu has authored and co-authored two dozen professional papers in top tier peer-reviewed journals in the field of Physical Education and Exercise Science and presented more than fifty research abstracts during national and international conferences. In 2019, he was selected as a Research Fellow of SHAPE America and the sole recipient of the Early Career Excellent Research Award of the ICSPAH. Dr. Liu provides leadership to the ICSPAH as the Secretary and the Journal of Physical Education, Recreation, and Dance as an editorial board member. He also serves on multiple committees at Texas A&M University.
