Dr. Benjamin C. Herman joined Texas A&M in 2020 as an Associate Professor, holding a joint faculty appointment in the Department of Teaching, Learning and Culture and the Department of Biology. He received his Ph.D. in Science Education with a minor in Statistics from Iowa State University. He also possesses a B.S. in Animal Ecology, an M.S. in Wildlife Resources, an M.A.T. in Science Education and extensive experiences teaching science and researching science teaching and learning in formal and informal settings. These experiences include teaching secondary biology and chemistry in Iowa and Florida, and working at the post-secondary level conducting research and educating science students and pre-service and in-service science teachers. His research addresses how sociocultural factors and epistemological beliefs about science and technology impact socioscientific engagement, particularly regarding environmental issues, and how science education can better prepare people to critically resolve those issues. Dr. Herman's scholarship has been recognized through several awards, including the prestigious NARST Early Career Research Award. He also served as an Associate Editor for the Journal of Research in Science Teaching (JRST).
