JoHyun Kim, Ph.D., is an Associate Professor in Educational Administration and Human Resource Development at Texas A&M University. She earned her Doctorate in Education Policy, Organization, and Leadership from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, with a specialization in higher education and community college leadership. Dr. Kim previously served as Associate Director of Institutional Research at Western Illinois University and as a Research Analyst at Parkland Community College before beginning her faculty career in higher education.
Dr. Kim has served as Chair of the American College Personnel Association (ACPA) Commission for Two-Year Colleges. Her teaching and research recognitions include her prior institution’s highest distinction teaching award and the Best Article Award from a leading journal in her field. Her research focuses on the high school-to-college transition, factors affecting students’ access and success in higher education, dual enrollment, equity of access to STEM, and community colleges as linkage institutions between high schools, adult education, and the workforce. Specifically, her research examines how underserved youth and adult students (minority, first-generation, LGBTQ, international, and immigrant students) can succeed in higher education settings. She has applied various multivariate statistical methods and conducted analyses on large datasets using literature-based frameworks.
Dr. Kim has published her work in leading journals and served on several editorial boards. Additionally, she has actively pursued grants and successfully secured several projects. She has taught advanced-level statistics, research methods, American community college courses, and community college leadership courses. She has chaired about 15 doctoral dissertations and served on about 30 dissertation committees at her prior institution. Due to her outstanding service, she received the university’s highest distinction service award.
