KATHLEEN HANIK (BYRNE)

Curriculum Vitae
Katy Byrne Hanik is an Instructional Assistant Professor in the Physical Education Activity Program within the Department of Kinesiology and Sport Management at Texas A&M University. She brings a wealth of expertise to her role, having earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) in Ballet from the University of Utah and a Master of Fine Arts (MFA) in Dance from Florida State University. Her passion lies in promoting health and wellness through movement, and she teaches a variety of courses, including Introduction to the Science of Health and Fitness, The Art of Movement, and activities such as Pilates, Pilates Barre, Yoga, and Dance.

As the faculty advisor for the Fade to Black Hip Hop Dance Ensemble, she fosters creativity and expression among students. Ms. Hanik has a rich professional experience as a dancer, having performed with New York Theatre Ballet and The Suzanne Farrell Ballet. Notably, she co-led a seminar for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities in the Aggie ACHIEVE program, collaborating with Nicole Kuppersmith during the fall of 2022 and 2023.

In recognition of her outstanding teaching, Ms. Hanik received the 2023 Emil Mamaliga Outstanding Teacher Award within her department. Originally hailing from Miami, FL, she has proudly called College Station home for the past sixteen years.
