Dr. Carlos Valiente is a developmental and learning scientist and a Professor and Department Head in the Department of Teaching, Learning and Culture. He holds the Claude H. Everett Jr. ’47 Endowed Chair. He has two decades of experience collaborating with school districts and parents to identify ways educators and parents can support children’s social and educational success. Results from Dr. Valiente’s research appear in approximately 100 journal articles or chapters in the areas of education, family functioning, and child development. State organizations, the National Science Foundation, and the National Institutes of Health have provided funding to support his research. He serves on the editorial boards of Early Education and Development, Developmental Psychology, and Social Development. Dr. Valiente has reviewed grants for major funders, including the Spencer Foundation, the National Science Foundation, and the National Institutes of Health. In 2020, he received a certificate in effective college instruction from the Association of College and University Educators. He is the recipient of an NSF CAREER Award, the American Psychological Association’s Minority Fellowship Program Early Career Award, and a Professorship in Early Childhood.
