YULING ZHUANG
Assistant Professor
Dr. Yuling Zhuang received her Ph.D. in mathematics education and M.A. in mathematics from the University of Georgia (UGA) in 2020. From 2020-2021, she worked as a postdoctoral researcher in the College of Engineering at UGA on an NSF-funded project aimed at integrating computer programming into elementary STEM classrooms using educational robotics. In 2024, Dr. Zhuang joined Texas A&M as an assistant professor in the Department of Teaching Learning and Culture within the College of Education and Human Development. Dr. Zhuang’s research focuses on empowering teachers to support meaningful STEM learning through active participation in argumentation. Her work explores teacher actions and contextual factors that promote argumentation and involves developing classroom interventions and practical tools to facilitate teachers’ learning in supporting argumentation. Dr. Zhuang has published articles in top journals in mathematics education, including Educational Studies in Mathematics, Mathematical Thinking and Learning, and Journal of Mathematics Teacher Education. Currently, Dr. Zhuang is leading several research projects investigating the potential of AI-driven teaching tools to improve mathematics teachers’ abilities to engage students in argumentation. Additionally, Dr. Zhuang collaborates with an interdisciplinary team of researchers from fields like engineering, computer science, science education, and instructional technology. Together, they are designing and promoting methods to advocate for integrated STEM education. Dr. Zhuang has teaching experience in both China and the US. She teaches courses in pure mathematics courses and mathematics education, including mathematics content, mathematical pedagogy, and mathematical learning. Dr. Zhuang was elected as an Association of Mathematics Teacher Educators (AMTE) STaR Fellow in 2022. Dr. Zhuang has presented at both national and international mathematics education conferences and has served on the boards of directors for several professional STEM outreach programs.
